Ancient flowering plant (angiosperm) and its ancient pollinator... Magnolias were among the first flowering plants on Earth. They are pollinated by beetles, which were on our planet even before bees existed.

Most beetles are attracted to flowers that close at night, trapping the beetle inside before releasing it the following morning when the flower is laden with pollen. Many flowering plants rely on entrapment for pollination.
