Rhododendron is a genus of 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family, either evergreen or deciduous. It is found mainly in Asia, although it is also widespread throughout the lowland and montane forests of the Pacific Northwest, California, and the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains of North America.
Members of the genus Rhododendron support the following specialized bee: Andrena cornelli, the azalea miner, is a species of mining bee in the family Andrenidae. It is found in North America. The only bee species oligolectic on azalea (Rhododendron spp.) with widely spaced scopa hairs that can carry the type of pollen of these plants.
